Earth Focus Day Camp Programs

Earth Focus Day Camp opens children's eyes to the natural world around them.

Learning Together
(age 3 through entering kindergarten in fall)

Learning Together sessions are a great opportunity for parents or caregivers to spend quality time with their preschoolers. Activities are designed so that adults and children can investigate the natural world together.

    • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Limit two age-appropriate children per adult.
    • Sessions meet Monday and Wednesday OR
    Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Fees

  • $55 ($50 for members of Friends of the Arboretum) per session, includes one child and parent/guardian.
  • Limit 2 children per adult. Bring enrolled child only.

Sessions

  • Session 1a: June 15 and 17 or Session 1b: June 16 and 18
    Let's go on a Nature Walk
    What's lurking under that rock? What's hiding in that nest? What's folded inside that leaf? Nature will show us the way as we explore the out-of-doors. We'll do some simple outdoor science experiments.
  • Session 2: July 7 and 9
    Flying Friends
    We will discover insects and birds as we hike and explore the gardens of the Arboretum. We'll look for their food and homes.
  • EFDC Family Celebration and Night Hike: August 14, 7:30-9 p.m.

Explorers
(for children entering grades 1 - 5 in fall)

Children will be divided into groups according to age.
Each session meets Monday through Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m.–noon

Fees

  • $145 per student/per session ($135 for members of Friends of the Arboretum)

Sessions

  • Session 1: June 22 - 26
    Wild about Water
    Water is everywhere in the Arboretum! We'll spend the week finding it, in ponds, plants and in the air as we explore the different habitats of the Arboretum.
  • Session 2: July 20 - 24
    Animals of the Arboretum
    Big and little, dead and alive, we'll look at the secret lives of the animals. You only know they live here by chance encounters, tracks, scat and other mysterious signs.
  • Session 3: August 3 - 7
    Let's get Dirty
    Earth Science at the Arboretum -- soil, rocks, weather and more -- their influence on the plants and animals that live here; we'll explore it all.

Eco-Trekkers
(for children entering grades 6 - 8 in fall)

Each session meets Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–noon

For thousands of years, people have learned about the natural world using direct observation. Eco-Trekkers will be introduced to the skills that make a good naturalist. We will practice taking care of the land.

Fees

  • $145 per student/per session ($135 for members of Friends of the Arboretum)

Sessions

  • Session 1: June 22-26
    Water Ways, Water Wise
    Explore, study, and learn about the wetlands of the Arboretum. Experiences may include measuring water quality, pond dipping, and microscopic study.
  • Session 2: August 10-14
    Survive in Nature
    Learn about outdoor skills as we explore the Arboretum's environments. Some activities may be learning knots, knife safety, compass work and GPS, and creating shelters.
