Background:

In this step, you will select a woodland community that matches your site's environmental and biological characteristics. Your previous investigations of soil, topography, existing vegetation, microclimate, and historical information are tools to help you find the right fit. Selecting an appropriate woodland model is not an exact science but rather a combination of skilled observations, educated guesses, and common sense. The following activity, "A Good Fit," will guide you through the selection process.
