Native Plant Sale Welcomes Spring

Native Plant Sale -- Saturday May 11th 2013

A tradition established in 1990, the Friends of the Arboretum Native Plant Sale takes place the Saturday before Mother's Day each May, offering a large crowd of enthusiastic gardeners more than a hundred species of native plants suitable for a variety of soil and light conditions.

No plants are dug from the wild. All are native to the area and, once established, require minimal care. During the sale, experts are available to answer questions. Members of Friends of the Arboretum receive a discount on all purchases on plants in the tent sale on May 11th.

The 2013 Native Plant Sale takes place on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the large tents next to the Arboretum Visitor Center. We'll have native grasses; woodland, prairie and savanna plants; trees and shrubs.

Native Plant Order brochures identifying trees, shrubs, mixes and perennials for sale will be sent in the February and March issues of NewsLeaf, or download a brochure here. The time period for ordering runs from Feb. 1 to  March 29, 2013. These special mixes, trees and shrubs will not be available at the tent sale on May 11th. FOA members receive a discount on native plant purchases which will be ready for pick-up on May 9th.

Please join us on Saturday, May 11th to find a wider variety of native plants under the big tent.

Native plant information sheets are available for the eighteen native shrubs, trees and four plant mixes for prairie, savanna and rain gardens that are available to order. View Plant Information Sheets
