Blooming Times Delayed by Cool WeatherTHURSDAY, MAY 9, 2013
Blooming times in the Longenecker Horticultural Gardens and native plant restorations are later than average, in fact, nearly the latest ever for some things.
Lilacs will be at their peak bloom around the week of May 20. Crabapples should peak around May 15. Magnolias, Serviceberries and the cherries are at peak bloom the week of May 6. High winds or heavy rain would bring down Serviceberry and cherry blossoms. Unseasonably high temperatures would accelerate blooming and unseasonably cool temperatures will slow it down.
Woodland wildflowers are still blooming in Gallistel, Wingra and Noe Woods.
