  • Pasque flower,_Anemone patens_, blooming in Wisconsin Native Plant Garden on Monday March 30.
  • Big Brown Bat hanging on the Visitor Center March 19.
  • Chorus frogs began calling on March 24
  • American Hazelnut,_Corylus Americana_, flowers and catkins on March 30.
  • Easterm garter snake,_Thamnophis sirtalis_, emerging.  These snakes live in grassy areas. Their diet consists of frogs, earthworms, salamander larvae, tadpoles, fish and beetles.You can see more about Wisconsin snakes at http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/er/herps/snakes/

  • Wild Rose,_Rosa caroliniana_,on Curtis Prairie and in the Native Plant Gardens.
  • Spiderwort,_Tradescantia ohiensis_,in short prairie garden can also be found on the Grady Knoll and Curtis Prairie.
  • Golden Alexander_Zizia aurea_,in the Friends of the Arboretum Terrace garden.
  • Lanceleaf coreopsis,_Coreopsis lanceolata_, in short grass prairie garden is not found elsewhere in the Arboretum.

  • Eastern Prickly Pear,_Opuntia humifusa_,blooming in the species garden, is one of two species of cacti native to Wisconsin.
  • Butterfly milkweed,_Asclepias tuberosa_, and spiderwort,_Tradescantia ohiensis_, blooming in the mesic prairie garden. These species also grow together on the west Grady Knoll.
  • Bumblebee,_Bombus species_, and large milkweed bug,_Oncopeltus fasciatus_, on Marsh milkweed,_Asclepias incarnata_, in the species garden.
  • Bumblebee on Downy woodmint,_Blephilia ciliata_, in the oak savanna garden.
  • Pale purple coneflower,_Echinacea pallida_, on Curtis Prairie July 3
  • Compass plant, _Silphium laciniatum_, flowers

  • Cuckoo wasp,_Chrysididae_, on Panicled aster,_Symphyotrichum lanceolatum_,in the Mesic Prairie Garden
  • Silky aster,_Symphyotrichum sericeum_, flowers unfurling in the Dry-lime prairie garden.
  • False boneset,_Kuhnia eupatoroides_, with bee in the Species garden
  • Indian grass,_Sorghastrum nutans_, flowers September 4.
  • Locust borer beetle,_Megecyllene robiniae_,on stiff goldenrod,_Solidago rigida_September 1.
  • Two-marked leaf hopper,_Enchenopa binotata_, and eggs on Nanny berry twig,_Viburnum lentago_.
