Spring Wildflowers at the Arboretum
Golden Alexander, Zizia aurea, occurs naturally in seasonally wet prairies. It grows to up to 3 feet tall with several 1-1/2 inch clusters of bright yellow flowers growing in an open mounded form with lush, heart shaped foliage that is attractive all summer. Flowers bloom from May to June. Caterpillars of the black swallowtail butterfly feed on this plant. It can be found on Greene Prairie.
