An Illustrated Guide to the Native Plant Garden by Susan Carpenter
This May scene from the Front Entrance Garden shows spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis) with blue flowers and pink prairie phlox (Phlox pilosa). The tall plant (rear center) is bee balm (Monarda fistulosa), not yet in bloom. In the foreground, Penn sedge (Carex pensylvanica) forms a ground cover. This site has heavy soil, with full sun for much of the day.
